Job Details
Elsie Blundell MP is seeking a proactive and creative Digital Communications Officer to join her London office, primarily providing high quality social media communications.
The post-holder will lead on social media communications across national and parliamentary landscapes, ensuring clear, consistent messaging and strong engagement with constituents and other key stakeholders.
The successful candidate will take a strategic approach to national communications issues, identifying opportunities to amplify the MP’s work and tying her work in Westminster to campaign priorities – including but not limited to devolution, transport and social mobility.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead delivery of national / Westminster-based digital communications
• Manage social media, website and some press output in relation to national campaigns
• Draft press releases, briefings, and opinion pieces
• Monitor media and social media activity, identifying trends and opportunities
• Build and maintain relationships with local, regional and national media
• Identify opportunities to bridge local issues with national campaigns
• Manage, monitor, maintain and enhance a social media and online presence in the constituency, dealing with responses and escalating as required
• Produce online graphics and high quality video and photography content
• Ensure all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner
• Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
• Attend events and engagements as required
• Working closely and proactively with Constituency Communications Officer
Person Specification
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Understanding of how communications support campaigning and public engagement
Ability to work independently and as part of a small, fast-paced team
Experience in communications, PR, journalism or political/campaign communications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong digital communications skills – including video editing, the production of graphics and other areas
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
A proactive and creative approach
Confidence engaging with media, stakeholders and the public
Understanding of the political landscape and Labour Party values
Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
