Job Details

Mohammad Yasin is seeking to recruit a part-time (22.5 hours) Caseworker to join his busy constituency team, including attendance at Saturday surgeries on a rota basis.

The successful candidate will support constituents on a wide range of issues, providing advice & assistance by telephone, correspondence & in person. The role involves liaising with Government depts, the NHS, local authorities & other organisations to help resolve constituent concerns effectively & compassionately.

The role will include researching & drafting responses on policy/campaign issues, preparing correspondence & providing occasional diary/inbox support.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong communication & organisational skills, who can manage competing priorities & is passionate about supporting constituents.

Job Description
• Attend surgeries & meetings, & follow up as appropriate
• Manage a high volume of enquiries by phone, email, social media & in person
• Support more complex casework as required
• Draft campaign & policy responses
• Maintain accurate & confidential records in line with data protection legislation
• Occasional inbox monitoring & diary management support
• Occasional training or events outside Bedford (expenses paid)

Person Spec
• Previous experience in a constituency office or casework environment is desirable but not essential
• Experience working with the public
• Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, with the ability to support constituents empathetically in person, by telephone & in writing
• Strong written skills, with the ability to draft letters, emails, briefings & campaign responses to a high standard
• Good research & analytical skills, with the ability to understand policy issues & prepare accurate draft responses
• Ability to manage expectations sensitively where constituents are facing challenging circumstances
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands & maintain attention to detail
• Ability to work independently & in a small team
• Competent IT skills, incl. Microsoft Word/Outlook, & willingness to learn casework management software
• Sympathetic to the aims & objectives of the Labour Party & politically aware
