Job Details

David Barratt MSP is seeking a Caseworker to join his brand-new team to support him as the newly-elected Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Cowdenbeath constituency.

Tasks and duties:

  • Handling a varied caseload, and ensuring casework is dealt with efficiently, professionally and in line with GDPR.
  • Maintaining regular communication with constituents with ongoing cases on David’s behalf.
  • Engaging professionally and empathetically with constituents in person, by telephone and by email, and attending surgeries with David when required.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of policy and procedural matters relevant to casework.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date database of casework and constituency contacts.
  • Briefing David regularly on ongoing casework matters and any issues arising that could be raised at a Parliamentary level.

Essential criteria:

  • Previous experience of supporting members of the public, including vulnerable individuals, such as advocacy or advice services.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and integrity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of GDPR data protection regulations.
  • Good IT skills and accustomed to using Microsoft Office software.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively independently, demonstrate use of one’s own initiative, and to work collaboratively within a small team.
  • Ability to effectively manage a heavy caseload, competing demands and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Personable and able to engage confidently with people from all backgrounds.
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Scottish National Party.

Desirable criteria:

  • Knowledge of the Cowdenbeath constituency.
  • Previous experience of using a casework management system.
  • Previous experience of working in a Parliamentary setting/for an elected representative.

[NB:- please note this is a part-time role; however, we would consider combining it with the concurrently advertised part-time Parliamentary Assistant role to constitute one full-time position]

Salary: £17,700 - £24,000 per annum pro rata (£29,500 - £40,000 full-time equivalent) depending on experience and skills
