Job Details
Leigh Ingham is seeking a Communications Officer to join her team on a 14-month maternity cover contract. The role will be full time and based in the Westminster office – with travel to Stafford Fridays when the House is sitting, one Saturday per month, and occasionally during recess (travel provided).
The successful applicant will lead delivery of communications across constituency and parliamentary work, including social media, newsletters, website and press output, delivering clear and effective communication across multiple platforms to engage constituents.
Key responsibilities
• Design and develop engaging and targeted content and constituency campaigns across a range of channels.
• Monitor media and social activity, identifying trends and opportunities
• Manage social media (paid and organic), creating engaging content including videos and graphics
• Manage the MP’s digital communications including email newsletter and website
• Draft press releases, media briefings, speeches and opinion pieces
• Build relationships with local, regional and national media
• Identify opportunities to turn local issues and casework into campaigns
• Produce flyers, reports, and surveys for use in constituent communications
• Assist with running constituency events
• Work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends or travel to London
Skills and experience
• Experience working in communications, PR, or journalism
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to draft clear and professional correspondence in Leigh’s voice for different audiences
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
• Experience managing social media channels, including Meta advertising
• Good skills in graphic design and experience with Adobe/Canva
• Ability to edit short-form video for social media
• Confident in website management and maintenance
• Good awareness of current affairs and the issues facing the constituency
• Sympathetic to the values of the Labour Party
• A positive, proactive and creative approach

Interview/Start Dates
Interviews will be on Tuesday June 2nd in London and will include a pre-prepared communications task.
The successful candidate will be expected to start on Monday July 13th.
