Job Title: Head of Public Affairs

Working For: Inside Track

Location: London

Salary: £60,000 pro rata

Length of Contract: 6-12 months

Job Details

This is not a conventional public affairs role.

Inside Track is looking for a senior public affairs leader for a rare part-time role at the intersection of policy, media, institutional power and public-interest change.

The role is public-facing and high profile. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable being publicly associated with Inside Track’s work and credible with ministers, advisers, civil servants, regulators, policy makers, editors and journalists.

Inside Track is a UK non-profit working with experienced people from influential industries to understand where industry norms, incentives and structures block better social and environmental outcomes. It is independently funded and does not take corporate, government or lobbyist money.

The priority is public affairs delivery: mapping power, building trusted relationships, shaping stakeholder strategy and helping Inside Track’s work reach people with authority or influence to act.

The role will also include media relations, including building connections with editors, journalists and influential figures linked to the work. Media and PR experience is useful, but this is public affairs-led rather than PR-first.

This is a chance to shape Inside Track’s public affairs approach from an early stage, not maintain an inherited system.

The role is 2 days per week initially and can be delivered flexibly, with regular time in London for Parliament, policy, media and occasional team meetings. There may be scope to increase to 3 or 4 days per week by mutual agreement if the person brings broader capability, for example as a strong spokesperson or through organisational development or wider communications leadership.

The role will involve developing and delivering a practical public affairs strategy; building senior stakeholder relationships; engaging media contacts where this supports public affairs objectives; advising on timing and framing; and representing Inside Track’s work with judgement, clarity and discretion.

Inside Track welcomes applications from people from all backgrounds. Selection will be based on the role criteria and ability to deliver the brief.
