Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant/Senior Parliamentary Assistant

Job Details

Responsibilities
• Drafting of high-quality parliamentary speeches, questions and contributions.
• Lead on drafting of policy casework responses, ensuring all constituents receive a response within our established timeframe.
• Supporting the Members’ work and providing briefings for select committee, all party parliamentary groups and other meetings in Parliament.
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed.
• Work with the constituency office to communicate Damien’s parliamentary activity to residents and monitor local, regional, and national media coverage to brief the Member on key policy issues and current affairs.
• Give advice on policy issues.
• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries.
• Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc.
• Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming parliamentary business including how they impact in Bristol North East.
• Monitoring and understanding of the parliamentary timetable to plan the members time and contributions.

Personal specification, knowledge, and experience
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must feel confident speaking to people on a telephone.
• Good knowledge of UK Parliament and its procedures – experience working within Parliament or a comparable setting (e.g. local government) is desirable.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise a demanding workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
• Highly motivated with the ability to take initiative and be responsible for own workload.
• Ability to interact professionally with colleagues and constituents.
• Some out of hours working will be required when Parliament is in session.
• Occasional travel to Bristol North East.
• This is a full-time office-based role, with up to one day a week of remote working.
• Have a good understanding of the aims and values of the Labour Party.
