Job Details

 Rosie Duffield, Member of Parliament for Canterbury, is seeking a Parliamentary Assistant to join her Westminster office team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced political environment supporting Rosie by assisting with a wide range of parliamentary responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities effectively. Applicants should ideally have experience in administration, communications, casework, or working within a political or public service environment.

Key Responsibilities*
• Maintain a strong understanding of parliamentary business
• Manage Rosie’s Westminster diary
• Work with the Office Manager and Casework team to identify opportunities to raise constituents’ issues in the Chamber.
• Draft briefings, speeches, and ministerial correspondence with clear sourcing.
• Arrange meetings with Ministers to advance campaigns, legislation, and constituency priorities.
• Manage the Westminster inbox and respond to correspondence as appropriate.
• Table parliamentary questions, amendments and debates linked to key priorities.
• Build relationships with MPs, staff, and external stakeholders, including organising drop-ins to support spokesperson work.
• Coordinate All-Party Parliamentary Groups with secretariats and stakeholders.
• Provide administrative support to the Westminster office.
• Keep up to date with relevant and forthcoming legislation.
• Assist with communication team where necessary, including social media posts.

Skills and Experience:
• Proactive, organised, and able to work independently and in a small team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly motivated and well organised individual who can manage and prioritise a demanding workload, take initiative and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new policy areas and processes.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
• Good understanding of parliamentary processes.

There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally; this includes some working from the constituency office as required and during parliamentary recess periods.
