Job Details

George Freeman MP, former UK Minister of State for Science, Technology & Innovation, is looking for a Parliamentary Assistant to help manage and co/ordinate his various Science & Technology Roles & Projects in Parliament (UK Trade Envoy to Brunei,Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore, Dep Chair, House of Commons Science & Technology Select Committee; Chair, All Party Parliamentary Group for Polar Regions).

The role is part time, minimum 3 days per week.

Essential Skills and Experience 

Applicants will need to be 🔹 highly organised 🔹interested in UK & International science and technology policy and the geopolitics of the global race for sovereign S+T advantage, 🔹motivated self-starter & able to learn fast, 🔹have excellent written and verbal communication skills, 🔹comfortable researching & preparing briefing material for speeches / events to tight deadlines 🔹familiar with AI as an office tool and able to use ClaudeAI to handle large amounts of incoming information to prepare succinct briefings, 🔹comfortable using LinkedIn for S+T networking & CMS contact management systems 🔹have an ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast-paced Parliamentary office and a good team player.
Prior experience of Parliament / Whitehall / UK policy ecosystem helpful but not essential if the applicant is willing and able to learn fast on the job.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The primary role and responsibilities will be working with George and existing team to manage and co-ordinate:

• PARLIAMENTARY MONITORING (ORDER PAPER. TABLE OFFICE. HANSARD.)
• LIAISON WITH MINISTERS / SPECIAL ADVISERS / OTHER MPs/ PEERS /FCDO / AMBASSADORS
• RESEARCH & BRIEFINGS ON S+T POLICY & GF SPEECHES / PRESENTATIONS
• MONITORING UK & INTERNATIONAL MEDIA RE TOPICAL S+T NEWS
• PREPARING BRIEFINGS FOR GF MEETINGS & PROJECTS
• LIASING WITH DEPT BUSINESS & TRADE & FCDO RE TRADE ENVOY VISITS & MEETINGS
• LIASING WITH KEY UK UNIVERSITIES / INNOVATORS. 
• VIP CONTACTS
• TRADE ENVOY / DBT
• S+T COMMS. HELPING GF WITH• SCITECH INVESTMENT NEWS MONITORING• BULLETINS TO S+T NETWORK• POSTING MONTHLY S+T BLOGS ON SUBSTACK / LINKED IN 25,000 FOLLOWERS• MANAGING GF NEW S+T WEBSITE / LINKED IN PROFILE INBOX / SUBSTACK
