Job Details

  • Maintain a strong understanding of parliamentary business, including Motions, legislation, debates, Hansard, and Select Committees.
  • Manage Liz’s Westminster diary, ensuring alignment with parliamentary business and other commitments.
  • Work with the Casework team to identify opportunities to raise constituents’ issues in the Chamber.
  • Drafting of high-quality parliamentary speeches, questions and contributions.
  • Lead on drafting of policy casework responses, helping to ensure that all constituents receive a response within our established timeframe.
  • Supporting Liz’s work and providing briefings for select committee, all party parliamentary groups and other meetings in Parliament.
  • Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed.
  • Work with the constituency office to help communicate Liz’s parliamentary activity to residents and monitor local, regional, and national media to brief her on key policy issues and current affairs.
  • Give advice on policy issues.
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries.
  • Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming parliamentary business including how it impacts Eastleigh.
  • Arrange meetings with Ministers to advance campaigns, legislation, and constituency priorities.
  • Manage the Westminster inbox and respond to correspondence as appropriate.
  • Table parliamentary questions, amendments, EDMs, and debates linked to key priorities.
  • Build relationships with other MPs’ staff, and stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support to the Westminster office.
  • Respond to routine correspondence and parliamentary enquiries.
  • Keep up to date with relevant and forthcoming legislation.
  • Prepare briefing packs, attend meetings, and take notes.
  • Liaise with party researchers and external organisations.
  • Develop strong knowledge of priority policy areas and support colleagues as needed.

Occasional out-of-hours work may be required.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Proactive, organised, and able to work independently and in a small team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new policy areas and processes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Good understanding of parliamentary processes.
  • Alignment with Liberal Democrat values.
