An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the constituency office of Liam Byrne MP in Birmingham Hodge Hill and Solihull North. You will support constituents with issues including housing, immigration, benefits, health, education and local government matters.
Working with constituents, government departments, local authorities and community organisations, you will help resolve problems, secure answers and ensure people receive the support they need.
This is a full-time maternity cover position from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. Flexible working arrangements may be considered.
About you
• Strong commitment to helping people and serving the local community.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Well organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Able to use initiative and solve problems effectively.
• Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information.
• Experience in casework, advice services, community engagement or similar roles is desirable.
• Knowledge of local issues affecting Birmingham communities is an advantage.
Key responsibilities
• Managing constituency casework across a range of issues.
• Liaising with government departments, local authorities, housing providers and other organisations.
• Supporting constituency surgeries, meetings and community events as required.
• Drafting correspondence and maintaining accurate records.
• Assisting with stakeholder engagement and community outreach.
• Ensuring constituents receive timely updates and support.
The role is primarily office-based within the constituency. Occasional evening, weekend and local travel may be required.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to public service and an understanding of UK political and parliamentary processes.
Salary: £27,000 per annum. Terms and conditions are in line with IPSA staffing guidelines.
