Job Title: Constituency Support Officer
Working For: Bradley Thomas MP (Bromsgrove)
Location: Bromsgrove
Salary: £27,000 FTE
Length of Contract: Permanent after three month trial
Job Details
This is a part-time role of four days / thirty hours per week, though if preferred the hours can be spread across five days. If working four full days, it would be ideal if these included Monday, Thursday and Friday, but some flexibility may be possible. It is primarily a constituency office-based role, though some working from home will be possible by agreement.
Working in tandem with a senior colleague, the role will focus primarily on casework. You will be the first point of contact for members of the public who approach their MP for assistance, and will manage a varied caseload and form good working relationships with local government representatives and other key stakeholders.
You will need to be highly organised and use initiative to prioritise your workload, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to deal with problems sensitively. IT skills are essential, although training on casework software will be provided.
The remainder of the role has a diary and admin focus.
Key responsibilities
- Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face.
- Assist at surgeries and other relevant meetings and follow up as appropriate
- Critically analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members
- Draft responses to constituents
- Ensure records are kept and each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately
- Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
- Manage and monitor social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level.
- Constituency diary management
- Occasional event management
- Some local office admin
- There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
