Job Details
The Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong Foundation is seeking a dynamic, outgoing and bright Cantonese-speaking individual with a strong interest in and understanding of Hong Kong’s democracy movement to take on the role of Public Affairs and Advocacy Manager.
An interest, understanding and experience of politics, international relations and Hong Kong’s democracy movement is essential.
Position responsibilities:
- Support the Head of UK Public Affairs and Advocacy in CFHK’s lobbying and advocacy activities in the UK
- Provide materials for politicians in Parliament, as well as the devolved administrations, such as briefing papers and draft questions
- Cultivate and maintain an active network with government, parliament, civil society, activist organisations and the media
- Represent the Foundation, attend meetings and roundtables, including visits to Parliament, government departments, embassies and other NGOs
- Draft blogs and op-eds, provide media commentary and engage in media interviews
- Support and/or lead key CFHK Foundation projects as required across the UK
- Conduct research and analysis on relevant political and policy issues
- Liaise with communications team on any media-related activities
- Liaise with counterparts in Washington DC as required
- Provide any administrative support functions as required
Candidate experience:
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Cantonese is essential
- Vital to have an interest and/or experience in China/Hong Kong issues, China relations with the UK, international affairs, political prisoners, human rights and press freedom
- Experience of working with parliament, government institutions, think tanks, research bodies, and media is strongly preferred
- Proficiency in creating engaging digital graphics and visual content to support events, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement activities is desirable
