Job Details

Paul Foster MP is looking for a highly motivated full-time Caseworker to join his hard-working South Ribble Constituency Office.

The individual will provide advice and support to constituents on a wide range of issues such as, but not exclusive to housing, immigration, policy, benefits and health. They will also be responsible for dealing with e-mails in relation to campaigns in Parliament and in the constituency. The Caseworker will also help to resolve problems through liaison with Government agencies, local authorities and other organisations.

Responsibilities will include:

• Manage and progress a portfolio of casework including logging cases, taking appropriate actions, gathering relevant information to assist with resolving cases and responding to constituents promptly
• Drafting letters, emails and documents in a manner which reflects the Member’s views
• Be responsible for managing the Caseworker and filing systems
• Adhere to Data Protection
• Maintain, update and develop knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance
• Communicate appropriately with internal and external contacts
• Attend constituency meetings as required and organise surgeries

Necessary skills:

• Excellent IT skills
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
• A positive and flexible approach
• Ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard, in a clear and concise style
• Motivated to work independently and impartially as well as the ability to work effectively 
• A positive and non-judgemental outlook and the ability to empathise with people in difficult situations
• Use of a case management system
• Outstanding organisational skills
• Impeccable time management, the ability to work to tight deadlines and to be able to prioritise under pressure
• To be able to work with diplomacy and discretion
• Be able maintain the upmost professionalism at all times
• Previous experience at working for a Member of Parliament or in an advice setting

Essential Experience:

• Experience of handling sensitive issues in a confidential manner
• Good problem solving skills
• Sound knowledge of the issues handled by a Member of Parliament
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party

First interview via Microsoft Teams on Monday 22 June or Tuesday 23 June

Successful candidates will then be invited for a second interview on Monday 29 June or Tuesday 30 June.
