Reporting directly to the Senior Cabinet Support Officer in the Leader’s Office which is part of the Chief Executive’s Directorate this post provides innovative support for the Leader of the Council and Cabinet Members, as well as supporting projects for the Chief Executive of the Council.
Possessing an understanding of political environments and current developments in local and national government you will be able to provide highly effective research, communications and administrative support.
Specific Accountabilities of the Role
• Work with the Senior Cabinet Support Officer in coordinating Cabinet Members’ work with the preparation of agendas and notes of meetings and reports ensuring they are adequately briefed for council meetings and external visits.
• Ensure Cabinet Members get the most from their portfolios by keeping up to date with developments in local and national government that bear on their responsibilities.
• Undertake research, produce written briefings and undertake project work for the Leader and Cabinet Members that helps them fulfil their roles.
• Using your own initiative, manage the competing and varied workload of Cabinet Members to coordinate their work, arranging and overseeing meetings that maximise the use of their time, acting as a first point of contact, and taking responsibility for ensuring work is dealt with appropriately.
• Draft high quality tactile responses, following up enquiries from stakeholders and residents.
• Organise travel and accommodation and prepare travel itineraries for the Leader of the Council and Cabinet Members and monitoring the Leader of the Council’s and the Leader’s Office inbox for the Leader Support Officer during periods of absence from the office.
• Take a proactive approach to communications, drafting speeches and articles for publication, and refining draft press releases that demonstrate creative flair as part of the council’s public affairs and lobbying efforts.
• Assist the Senior Cabinet Support Officer in maintaining the Leader of the Council’s social media presence and supporting Cabinet members with content for the council’s social media including drafting scripts for videos in support of the Council’s priorities.
