UK‑China Transparency is a UK‑based charity dedicated to researching the influence of the Chinese Communist Party on the UK and on British interests. It conducts rigorous, objective research to support policymakers, journalists, civil society, and the public in understanding the risks, dynamics, and implications of UK‑China engagement. It is currently seeking a Research Manager to manage its broad research portfolio.
About the Role
The Research Manager is responsible for coordinating and delivering the charity’s research work. Reporting to the Director, you will manage our team of research volunteers, oversee research workflows, and ensure that all outputs meet our standards for accuracy, objectivity, and methodological rigour.
You will also conduct your own research, draft reports and briefings, and prepare press releases. The role requires confidence in presenting findings to senior audiences, including parliamentarians, officials, journalists, and international partners.
This is an excellent opportunity for a researcher with strong analytical skills, an interest in UK‑China relations, and a desire to contribute to public understanding of CCP influence in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the charity’s research portfolio, ensuring timely delivery of high quality outputs
- Draft bids for the funding of research projects
- Line manage and mentor research volunteers
- Conduct original research on CCP influence, UK‑China relations, and related themes
- Draft reports, briefings, press releases, and parliamentary materials
- Deliver senior level briefings on the charity’s research findings
- Maintain research databases, source libraries, and documentation
- Ensure all outputs meet the charity’s standards for accuracy, objectivity, and consistency
About You
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Strong research experience in China studies, international relations, security, human rights, or a related field
- Excellent analytical, writing, and editing skills
- Experience managing junior researchers or volunteers
- Confidence in briefing senior stakeholders
- Strong organisational discipline and attention to detail
- A commitment to objective, evidence-based analysis
Ideally, the right candidate would be able to read and speak Mandarin Chinese to a reasonable level. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK
