Job Title: Summer Paid Internship

Job Details

We are looking to recruit a summer intern to support the work of the MP’s office during the summer period. This is a varied role offering the opportunity to gain practical experience of working in a busy parliamentary and constituency office. The successful candidate will assist with a range of duties, including: 

-Supporting arrangements for events, including venue research and bookings, guest-list management, supplier liaison and on-the-day event support
-Assisting with projects across the office
-Learning how casework is managed and supporting the team with appropriate tasks
-Monitoring media coverage and helping brief the MP
-Attending surgeries and meetings as part of training and development
-Providing basic administrative support
-Learning how to analyse, evaluate and interpret data
-Carrying out research to support the work of the office
-Assisting with drafting responses to constituents
-Opening, handling and actioning email, post and social media enquiries

The intern will also help to project manage the MP Summer School, supporting its planning, organisation and delivery.

This role would suit someone who is organised, proactive, willing to learn and interested in politics, public service and community engagement. Good written communication, attention to detail and the ability to work professionally with members of the public are important.

Training and supervision will be provided throughout the internship.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

Advert Closing time: 23:59. We may appoint before the closing date if a suitable candidate is found. Interviews are expected to take place on the afternoon of Friday 26th June. Start date to be agreed with the successful candidate.
