The Office of the Rt Hon. Nick Thomas-Symonds MP is seeking a highly motivated Constituency Assistant and Policy Caseworker to join a busy constituency office. This is a varied role combining policy research, casework, campaigns and stakeholder engagement.
The successful applicant will produce clear responses on government policy and legislation, manage a caseload of policy enquiries, and on occasions support the resolution of constituency casework. They will also assist with campaigns, events, engaging with constituents, and maintaining strong relationships with local stakeholders.
Key duties include:
• Draft policy briefings on government policy, legislation, and consultations, identifying local impact and opportunities
• Manage a caseload of policy enquiries, drafting responses and ensuring timely, accurate resolution
• Support constituency casework during periods of high demand
• Engage professionally with constituents via email, phone and face-to-face
• Develop and support constituency campaigns, working with volunteers and stakeholders
• Organise and deliver constituency events and assist in MP surgeries
• Draft policy communications across digital platforms
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders
The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organisational ability, and experience handling casework or public enquiries. They will be able to analyse policy and present complex issues clearly, work under pressure, and manage competing priorities effectively.
A good understanding of UK politics, strong IT and social media skills, and a high level of attention to detail are essential. Experience in a political, public sector, or advocacy environment is desirable.
This role requires flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend work. A full UK driving licence and access to a car is desirable.
