Job Details

Charlotte Nichols MP is looking to recruit a Communications Officer (CO) to assist managing her output to local press, stakeholders and on social media.

Working closely with the Office Manager, the CO will support Charlotte’s constituency office to help ensure constituents are kept updated with her parliamentary and constituency activity. This will involve planning relevant communications by keeping up to date with local issues and legislation going through Parliament.

The CO will be proficient writing press releases to local media organisations. This will involve composing detailed releases on Charlotte’s activities and Government announcements.

The successful candidate will help to manage and develop Charlotte’s social media presence, including scheduling content, monitoring and moderating comments, and supporting timely responses to public facing queries. They will spot and develop creative communications ideas to extend reach and secure coverage across digital and traditional media.

The postholder will create a range of engaging digital content for Charlotte’s social and web channels and will help to ensure that she is able to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders across multiple media. Content may include but is not limited to TikTok videos, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Facebook posts, carousels and graphics.

The role will also include filming, editing and posting content for Charlotte to promote constituency activity. This will involve attending events, visits and engagements in the constituency of Warrington North as required or other UK locations, and will include evening and/or weekend work from time to time, as agreed with the MP.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Experience in communications, PR, journalism or political/campaign communications
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
• A proactive and creative approach
• Confidence engaging with media, stakeholders and the public
• Understanding of the political landscape and Labour Party values
• Understanding of how communications supports campaigning and public engagement
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small, fast-paced team
