Job Details

Charlotte Nichols MP is looking to hire a Constituency Support Officer to help with the everyday running of events, administration and communications.

The successful applicant will be:

• Highly organised, comfortable working at pace, and able to manage several priorities at once
• Calm, professional and confident dealing with the public
• Trustworthy, discreet and committed to confidentiality
• Willing to improve ways of working and try new approaches
• A strong team player with the confidence to work with others

At the heart of the role is outreach and event planning. Charlotte foresees the holder of this role taking the lead on organising events such as coffee mornings, surgeries, street stalls, and non-party political campaign activities. This will involve attending the events, taking photos and recording any follow up action required as a result of the visit. Secondly the CSO will also need to take up casework – in particular queries which are generated from events and surgeries. In addition, the CSO will be required to focus on policy casework and will need to have strong knowledge of current affairs and Government policy. When other casework staff are on leave, they will need to take up the more practical constituency casework. Being able to work independently, to problem solve and to use own initiative are key qualities.

There will also be a number of administrative tasks the CSO will be expect to complete. These will involve the creating and maintenance of stakeholder spreadsheets, the completing of diaries and composing newsletters.

The CSO may also need to support the rest of the team with other duties. These will include media enquiries and other administrative tasks.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
