Job Details
Afzal Khan MP is seeking an experienced and highly capable full-time Senior Caseworker to join his Manchester Rusholme constituency office in Whalley Range.
This is a senior role within a busy and fast-paced parliamentary office. The successful candidate will be expected to manage complex and often sensitive casework independently, helping residents resolve issues and navigate public services effectively.
Responsibilities include managing and progressing a substantial constituency casework load; communicating with constituents; drafting detailed correspondence on behalf of the MP; engaging professionally with stakeholders; maintaining accurate and confidential case records; and supporting constituency surgeries and meetings.
As a small team, the successful candidate will also be expected to assist with writing communications including speeches, social media, and briefings. The role will include research local, regional, and national issues to support the MPs work, manage projects, and support with executive support to the MP, as required.
Applicants should have substantial experience in a public-facing case management role. A strong understanding of how local and national government services operate is essential, alongside the judgement, resilience and professionalism required to handle demanding and sensitive cases effectively.
Desirable Skills:
• Experience in using a casework database such as Caseworker.MP
• Ability to travel across the Manchester Rusholme constituency reliably
• A strong knowledge of Manchester, including local communities, services, and key issues affecting residents
• Experience in writing external communications such as social media posts, speeches, or website blogs
Person specification:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including breaking down complex information into plain English
• Ability to manage own workload, work independently, prioritise and work under pressure.
• Excellent IT – including use of the caseworker system, administrative and organisational skills.
• Experience of dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information.
• Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team and occasionally work outside of normal hours and travel for work.
• Understanding of and sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party.
