I’m looking for a dedicated and professional Parliamentary Researcher as MP for Harpenden & Berkhamsted and the Lib Dem spokesperson for Science, Innovation and Technology. Mainly focused on helping me with my Parliamentary duties and bringing constituent concerns to Parliament (questions, letters, speeches, diary, debates, stakeholder management) as well as spokesperson work. Preferably looking for a senior role but open to a strong candidate who could grow to a senior.
Assist in writing external communications including speeches for the MP
Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
Diary Management
Work with colleagues in communications/casework to identify potential impacts from the research work and disseminate them effectively
Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the Member is accurately informed on key issues
Conduct parliamentary research as required
Deal with complex queries and complaints on the MPs' behalf, including drafting and signing letters
Establish and develop appropriate strategies around research development
Horizon-scanning, anticipate what advice or action may be required; proactively identify problems and resolve them
Lead on project work as required
Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries / Liaise with groups/personnel including at Westminster, within the constituency and the general public on the MP’s behalf as necessary
Maintain and utilise knowledge of relevant legislation, including impact on the local constituency
Research local, regional or national issues to support the MPs' work
To produce and present high quality written reports, briefing notes, and professional advice
Undertake supervisory responsibility as required
Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
After 12 months Victoria may need to restructure her staffing arrangements in order to ensure the right balance between her constituency and Westminster offices.
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
