Job Title: Constituency Assistant

Working For: Tony Vaughan KC MP (Folkestone and Hythe)

Location: Folkestone

Salary: £28,000

Length of Contract: 12 months

Job Details

The successful candidate will play a key part in increasing the MP’s visibility and impact across the constituency, with a strong focus on local issues such as access to GP services, water quality, and other concerns raised by residents. This job is intended to be an entry level role; however there may be some scope for negotiating a higher starting salary, depending on experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of local campaigns and projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders.
  • Draft locally focused content for social media, newsletters and the website, highlighting the MP’s work and the local impact of national policy.
  • Assist with filming, editing and captioning of videos in the constituency.
  • Draft responses to correspondence from constituents – both personal casework and policy correspondence.
  • Provide general administrative support to the constituency office.
  • Delivering leaflets and letters to constituents.
  • Where needed, supporting events in Parliament - for example, helping with larger group visits or events.

Essential

  • Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
  • A keen interest in local issues affecting Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh and good knowledge of the local area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence using social media and basic digital tools; experience with simple video editing or graphic tools.
  • Confident in dealing with members of the public and stakeholders, including in sensitive or challenging situations.
  • A proactive, can do attitude, with a willingness to work collaboratively in a small team and take on a broad range of tasks.
  • Have good political awareness.
  • Commitment to handling all information with discretion and confidentiality.

Desirable

  • Experience in community organising, campaigning, casework, or working in a political or public service environment.
