ASH Wales is the leading charity working to create a Smokefree Wales by 2030. We are looking for a Policy and Media Officer to help shape public debate, influence policy and strengthen ASH Wales’ role as a trusted, evidence based voice on tobacco and vaping control.
This role combines policy, media relations and campaign support. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and wider team to develop ASH Wales’ media and public affairs activity, build relationships with decision makers and partners, and support our work on public health policy across Wales.
Role details:
• Salary: £27,000 to £30,000
• Contract: Full time
• Location: Home based in South Wales, with travel across Wales as required
• Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Key responsibilities include:
• Developing and delivering ASH Wales’ media and public affairs programme
• Drafting policy briefings, consultation responses, position statements and press materials
• Building relationships with Senedd Members, civil servants, health bodies, community stakeholders and journalists
• Leading Secretariat support for the Wales Tobacco Control Alliance, the Cross Party Group and the Wales Tobacco or Health Network
• Monitoring tobacco and vaping policy developments and shaping ASH Wales’ response
• Representing ASH Wales at meetings, events, conferences and in the media
• Supporting campaigns, events and wider project delivery when needed
We are looking for someone with experience in media, policy or public affairs, strong writing skills, confidence in working with stakeholders and journalists, and an interest in public health. Knowledge of tobacco control is welcome, but not essential.
You will join a small, friendly and ambitious charity working to reduce the harm caused by smoking and tobacco use across Wales.
