Job Details
We are looking for an experienced caseworker/researcher with excellent research and communication skills. You will need experience of preparing written and verbal briefing materials and the ability to work proactively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Good knowledge of parliamentary processes is required; and you should be prepared to be both proactive and flexible, with strong interpersonal and teamworking skills
There may be a requirement for the post holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel to Westminster occasionally
Duties and Responsibilities will include:
• Manage and progress a portfolio of complex casework, including logging cases, taking appropriate actions promptly, monitoring progress
• Liaise with government agencies, council, NHS, voluntary sector and other organizations to help resolve cases
• Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases
• Respond to correspondence and enquiries from constituents, including drafting letters, emails and documents
• Attend constituency surgeries and meetings
• Retain records and information confidentially and in line with GDPR
• Maintain, update and develop knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance
• Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, with a positive and flexible approach
• Excellent IT skills including a casework tracking system
• Ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard
• Ability to write speeches and press releases
• Ability to research across a wide range of issues
• Motivated to work independently as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
• Good office administration skills
• An interest in current affairs and politics and supportive of the values of the Labour Party
Person Specification/Skills:
• Previous caseworker experience in an MP's office or in a similar role
• Liaising with Government agencies
• Have political awareness
• Knowledge of devolution
• Good command of English
• Speech writer ability
• Research skills
Desirable skills:
• Local knowledge of the Newport West & Islwyn Constituency
• Understanding of the Caseworker.mp system
• Driving licence and use of a car
