Job Details
Monica Harding MP is looking for an experienced, organised and politically astute Chief of Staff to lead her parliamentary and constituency office.
The Chief of Staff will provide strategic advice, manage the office team, oversee parliamentary and constituency operations, and act as a trusted senior point of contact for stakeholders. The role requires excellent judgement, discretion, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving political environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the day-to-day management of Monica’s parliamentary and constituency office, ensuring systems, workloads and priorities are well organised.
• Provide strategic advice to Monica on parliamentary, constituency and stakeholder priorities.
• Coordinate Monica’s diary, briefings and forward planning in collaboration with relevant team members.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, community groups, parliamentary colleagues, councils, public bodies and other partners.
• Support Monica’s work in Parliament, including preparation for debates, questions, meetings, media opportunities and policy work.
• Manage and support staff, including overseeing performance, development, wellbeing and recruitment where required.
• Horizon-scan political, local and parliamentary developments, identifying opportunities and risks.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
• Significant experience in Parliament, politics, public affairs, policy, communications, campaigns, local government, the charity sector or a similarly fast-paced environment.
• Excellent political judgement and a strong understanding of Parliament, government and public policy.
• Experience managing people, projects or complex workloads.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential information.
• A calm, practical and solutions-focused approach.
• A commitment to high standards of constituency service.
• Sympathy with Liberal Democrat values and Monica’s priorities for Esher and Walton as well as International Development.
