Are you passionate about politics, curious about how Parliament works, and committed to making a difference for the people of Newcastle?

Chi Onwurah, Labour MP for Newcastle Central and West, is looking for a motivated Parliamentary Intern to join her Westminster team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the heart of Parliament while supporting Chi's work championing Newcastle and the North East.

You'll help ensure local voices are heard in Parliament, support work on the issues that matter most to constituents, and contribute to Chi's role scrutinising science, innovation and technology. No previous political experience is required - we're looking for enthusiasm, sound judgement, strong communication skills and a genuine willingness to learn.

What you'll be doing

Working closely with Chi and her team, you'll:

  • Research national and local policy issues.
  • Support parliamentary work, including legislation and policy development.
  • Draft responses to constituents and support policy casework.
  • Monitor developments in science, innovation and technology, and issues affecting Newcastle and the North East.
  • Produce engaging content for social media, newsletters, press releases and short videos.
  • Support community engagement, events and general office administration.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is interested in politics, current affairs and public service.
  • Is sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
  • Has strong research, writing and communication skills.
  • Can explain complex issues clearly and accurately.
  • Is organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.
  • Is creative, adaptable and enjoys working as part of a busy team.

Additional information

  • Based in Westminster, with some travel to Newcastle.
  • Some short Saturday working will be required to support social media activity. Time off in lieu (TOIL) will be provided.
