Can you turn issues, casework themes and parliamentary priorities into compelling communications that help residents engage with their MP’s work?

Charlotte Cane MP is seeking an organised Communications Officer to shape and deliver communications across Ely & East Cambridgeshire.

You will produce social media content, press releases, newsletters, graphics, videos and other materials that help residents engage with Charlotte’s work. You will turn themes from casework and parliamentary work, into engaging content, while also supporting responses to constituent policy queries.

Duties include

  • Lead and deliver the MP’s communications strategy across key channels
  • Coordinate social media, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, timely and aligned with priorities
  • Identify emerging themes and turn them into effective public communications
  • Produce graphics, video content, news alerts and publicity for surgeries and local activity
  • Draft press releases and liaise with the media
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments
  • Analyse enquiry patterns and share findings with the MP and team
  • Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
  • Supporting with a high volume of constituent queries by phone, email and social media, drafting responses and keeping records in line with data protection legislation
  • The role may require occasional travel and work outside normal hours

Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for varied audiences and formats
  • Strong judgement, including handling sensitive, high-profile or fast-moving issues appropriately
  • Ability to turn complex policy, casework or local issues into accessible communications
  • Strong understanding of social media and digital communications, including creating, editing and publishing video
  • Excellent attention to detail, including accuracy, tone, grammar, proof-reading and fact checking
  • Strong organisational skills, managing competing deadlines and delivering high-quality work at pace
  • Confidence dealing professionally with journalists, stakeholders, constituents and colleagues
  • Discretion and resilience when handling confidential information under pressure

Desirable Skills & Experience

Experience in parliamentary/communications roles and knowledge of the constituency
