Following the current administration being re-elected with an increased majority in May 2026, this is a particularly exciting time to join the Leader’s Office in a key role which is crucial to helping the Leader of the Council, Cabinet, and wider Labour Group deliver on the administration’s ambitions to make Merton a cleaner, greener, safer, and more affordable place to live and work.

Cabinet Support Officer

Grade/Salary - ME9 - £38,256 - £39,276 per annum inclusive

Working to the Cabinet Manager, you’ll provide direct policy, research and administrative support to Cabinet Members, helping them to carry out their duties effectively to deliver the administration’s priorities.

Cabinet Manager
Grade/Salary - ME15 - £54,267 - £58,461 per annum inclusive
Working to the Head of Leader’s Office, you will provide direct policy and communications support and advice to the Leader of the Council and manage the crosscutting support that is offered to all Cabinet Members. You will line manage the Cabinet Support Officers and ensure that Cabinet Members and the administration as a whole are able to deliver on their ambitions.
You will also take a leadership role in the wider function of the Leader’s Office team and deputise for the Head of Leader’s Office as necessary.

Leader's Executive Support Manager
Grade/Salary - ME14 - £51,138 - £55,323 per annum inclusive
Working to the Head of the Leader’s Office, you will provide high-quality, confidential support to the Leader of the Council. In this vital role, you will help enable the smooth delivery of strategic priorities on behalf of the Leader of the Council by managing complex diaries and inboxes, preparing and commissioning briefings and correspondence for and on behalf of the Leader with input from subject matter experts, and act as a key link and the main point of contact between the Leader and senior officers in the council, elected members, and internal and external stakeholders.

You will also manage the Leader’s Office casework function, including line management of the Leader’s Caseworker and Casework Apprentice. Additionally, you will support with the organisation of events and visits for the Leader, including line managing the Events and Visits Apprentice.
