Job Details

Alistair Carmichael MP is seeking a full-time Caseworker to support constituents across Orkney and Shetland.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle a large volume of constituent queries by phone, email, social media and face-to-face meetings
• Manage a diverse caseload, from standard enquiries to complex cases, ensuring prompt, sensitive and accurate responses
• Draft correspondence to constituents, government agencies, local authorities and other relevant organisations
• Maintain an efficient casework management system, logging all cases and monitoring progress
• Assist with MP surgeries, constituency meetings and follow-up actions as required
• Ensure all records and information are managed confidentially and in compliance with data protection legislation
• Research policy areas and public services to support casework resolution
• Work with colleagues across Orkney and Shetland to provide a high-quality service to constituents

Essential Skills and Experience

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organisational skills and close attention to detail
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and social media platforms
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
• Empathetic approach and strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage a demanding workload and prioritise effectively
• Discretion and ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
• Research skills and the ability to quickly understand complex issues
• Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats

Desirable Skills

• Previous casework, advice work, administrative or customer service experience
• Understanding of local issues affecting Orkney and Shetland
• Knowledge of parliamentary, government, local authority or public service processes
• Full driving licence

Additional Information

• Some work outside normal office hours will be required, particularly for MP surgeries and constituency events
• Occasional travel within Orkney and Shetland may be necessary
