Job Details

Sarah Dyke MP is seeking a Part-Time Caseworker to join her busy constituency office team, working three days per week. This is an exciting opportunity to support the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Rural Affairs, helping constituents across a large rural constituency while contributing to effective representation on the issues that matter most to local communities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, maintaining high standards of accuracy, professionalism and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist at constituency surgeries and other meetings and undertake follow-up work as appropriate.
  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting with more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email or face-to-face. 
  • Draft responses to constituents and stakeholders.
  • Ensure records are kept and information is managed confidentially in line with data protection legislation.
  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP's policies and procedures.
  • Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
  • Log all cases, monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken. Liaise with government departments, local authorities and other organisations on behalf of constituents where appropriate.
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act.
  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside normal working hours and travel occasionally for work.

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to deal with and prioritise a large and varied workload and work well under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard. Motivation to work proactively and independently, as well as part of a small team.
  • Commitment to the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in casework, advocacy or a related field.
  • An interest in rural affairs and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing rural communities.
  • Knowledge of local government, public services or community organisations.
