Job Details

Gregor Poynton MP is seeking a motivated, organised and community-focused Constituency Assistant to join his Livingston constituency office.

This is a varied and rewarding role supporting constituents while helping to deliver effective communications and community engagement. The successful candidate will play an important part in providing a high-quality service, supporting the MP's casework, social media, media relations and public events, and responding to the issues that matter most to local residents.

Key responsibilities:

  • Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports.
  • Assist at surgeries, constituency meetings and other events, following up as required.
  • Deal with constituent enquiries by phone, email, social media and in person, including more complex cases where appropriate.
  • Draft responses to constituents.
  • Gather relevant information and maintain accurate, confidential case records in line with data protection legislation.
  • Log and monitor cases, ensuring actions are completed promptly, sensitively and accurately.
  • Manage and develop the constituency's social media presence, producing graphics, videos and content promoting news, campaigns and surgeries.
  • Respond to social media enquiries and comments.
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare press releases and other communications on constituency matters.
  • Liaise with local media and meet publication deadlines.
  • Support the MP at regular street surgeries, coffee mornings and other constituency engagement events.
  • Work occasional evenings or weekends and travel within the constituency when required.

Desirable (not essential): A full UK driving licence and access to a car.

Interviews will be held online during the week commencing 10 August 2026. The successful candidate will be expected to start on Monday 7 September 2026. We reserve the right to interview and appoint before the closing date.
