Location: Office base in Sunderland city centre with regular work out

Salary: £ 26,227.50 -28,000 Full-Time Equivalent (pro rata), depending on experience

Length of Contract: Permanent

Job Details

Hours: 0.6 FTE (22.5 hours per week).

Working pattern: Office hours, with one in five weekends on call. Flexible working can be agreed, but availability most Fridays is essential.

Lewis Atkinson MP is recruiting three Constituency Assistants to strengthen relationships across Sunderland Central, engage residents with their MP and support work to improve local neighbourhoods.

You'll build relationships with residents, businesses, charities, community groups and public services, supporting Lewis' commitment to being visible, accessible and responsive.

We're looking for people with energy, initiative and a passion for bringing people together who enjoy working in the community and helping solve local problems.

Key responsibilities

  • Build relationships with residents, businesses, charities and community groups.
  • Identify local issues and help coordinate responses.
  • Organise community events, meetings and engagement activities.
  • Represent Lewis at meetings and events.
  • Work with local partners to resolve issues.
  • Support resident communications, including letters and social media.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen engagement.
  • Work with the wider team to ensure community concerns are acted upon.

About you

You'll be proactive, approachable and organised, with strong communication skills and a passion for community engagement.

Essential:

  • Experience organising community activity or engagement.
  • Experience in the charity, voluntary or community sector (paid or voluntary).
  • Strong relationship-building and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Confidence representing Lewis professionally.
  • Good IT skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • Understanding of the role of an MP and local government.
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of Lewis Atkinson MP.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Sunderland Central.
  • Political, campaigning or public affairs experience.
  • Social media or content creation experience.

No two days are the same. You could be visiting a local charity, organising a community event, responding to a local issue or helping residents connect with their MP.
