Job Title: Constituency Assistant (Support Worker)

Job Details

Steve Darling, MP for Torbay, is looking for a motivated team player to join his team
in Torbay to support Steve’s work in championing local issues, leading community campaigns and
communicating his work effectively in the constituency.

The successful candidate will be expected to work 37.5 hours a week of which 1 day would be
over a weekend (usually Saturday) and flexible to work into the evening on occasion.

This role is part funded by the local Liberal Democrat Party so the candidate will also be working
with the local party and co-ordinating canvassing activities.

Communications, campaigns and/or stakeholder engagement experience would be helpful, but the ability to learn and build relationships quickly is essential.

The successful candidate will work closely with Steve and his team to promote his activities. They will help Steve to proactively build relationships with community groups, businesses and schools as well as support Steve's advice surgeries with constituents. 

The role will also assist the team through helping with casework correspondence, ensuring that constituent enquiries are dealt with efficiently and correctly, in line with GDPR.

You must be OK working with dogs as you will be working alongside Steve’s very friendly guide
dog Jennie.

A driving licence and a car is essential for this role to travel to meetings within the constituency. Fuel will be reimbursed.

The work of the successful applicant will nclude:

Accompanying Steve to meetings and taking action notes to follow up on.

Assisting with maintaining Steve’s social media.

Planning and promoting activities, events and campaigns in the constituency and accompanying
Steve to local engagements, where appropriate.

Assisting with responding to casework and accompanying Steve to MP surgeries.

Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with GDPR.

Among the key skills for this role are:

Articulate with exceptional written communication skills.

Experience of creating digital content.

Willingness to learn, flexible in approach and open to new ideas.

Excellent time management, able to work under pressure and able to meet tight deadlines.

Proactive, able to manage own workload, prioritise well and excellent organisation skills.

Good networker and able to build relationships quickly.
