Job Details
Alex Ballinger MP is recruiting a Senior Parliamentary Assistant for his Westminster office. The role requires a strong understanding of parliamentary processes and previous experience working in or closely with Parliament.
The post holder will provide senior strategic, research and operational support, ensuring the MP is fully informed and briefed on parliamentary, policy and constituency matters. Key duties include conducting and overseeing research, analysing complex information, preparing high-quality briefing notes, reports, parliamentary questions, media content and policy advice, and monitoring legislation, political developments and media coverage.
The successful candidate will manage complex casework and constituent enquiries, handle correspondence and complaints on the MP’s behalf, and take ownership of policy-related casework. They will be responsible for horizon-scanning emerging issues, identifying risks and opportunities, and developing research and project strategies to support the MP’s objectives.
The Senior Parliamentary Assistant will be involved in the MP’s external communications including drafting press materials, monitoring and responding to social media activity, publicising parliamentary work, and supporting the office.
Other responsibilities include diary management, responding to enquiries from constituents, stakeholders and interest groups, progressing casework, supporting events, and working outside normal hours when necessary. The role requires strong organisational, analytical, leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while providing high-quality advice and support to the MP.
