Job Title: Policy Assistant

Job Details

The purpose of the role is to support the policy casework of Rachel Blake MP by providing Rachels stances on government policy to constituents on a variety of issues. This role may also include project support to the Parliamentary team for events and policy campaigns.

Our policy casework plays an important role in an MP's office, supporting the MP to ensure that constituents' views are heard and help shape Rachels stances on policy. You will be liaising with Government departments, local councils, the voluntary sector and a range of other bodies.

The successful candidate will be a proven problem solver with a high level of written and verbal communication. Existing experience within a policy environment would be an advantage but not essential. What is essential is the ability to respond to high volumes of correspondence combined with nuance approach.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Member is accurately informed on key issues
• Assist with casework as required
• Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
• Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including
• Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc. This would include issues of importance both nationally and in the local constituency.
• Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
• Give advice on policy issues
• Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the constituency
• Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties including members of the public, groups,
• suppliers and Westminster where required
• Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
• Monitor social media activity and report any relevant trends to the Office Manager/MP
• Progress casework as required
• Project Work
• Provide generalist admin support
• Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will take place on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th July and we would look to start from 31st August but the role will be time limited to 31st March 2027.
