Job Details
Satvir Kaur MP is seeking to recruit a Parliamentary Assistant for her Westminster office to cover Maternity Leave.
Key Responsibilities
- Research local, regional, or national issues to support the MP’s work.
- To produce and present high-quality written reports, speeches, briefing notes, and professional advice
- Deal with complex and sensitive queries and correspondence on MP’s behalf, including drafting and signing letters.
- Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, media, lobbyists, and pressure groups.
- Horizon-scanning, anticipate what advice or action may be required; proactively identify problems and resolve them
- Attend, participate in and take action notes at meetings as appropriate
- Diary Management in support of the Office Manager
- Engage confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face to face
- Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
- Progress casework as required
- Project Work
- Provide generalist admin support including acting as first point of contact for visitors and constituency groups visiting Parliament
- There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work occasionally, including regular visits to the constituency office
Skills & Experience:
- Willingness to learn and undertake training
- A high standard of written work
- An interest in current affairs and policy issues
- A can-do and proactive attitude
- Personable and able to communicate with people from all backgrounds
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experienced working as part of a team.
This is a London based role, applicants must be able to work from Parliament
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
