Job Details

Luke Myer MP is looking for a creative and reliable Communications Officer to support his constituency and parliamentary communications during a period of maternity cover.

This is a part-time role, two days a week, with a strong focus on video editing, short-form digital content and social media. The role can be carried out remotely or from the constituency office in Guisborough.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Editing short-form video content for social media, including captions, subtitles and basic formatting for different platforms.
  • Producing graphics, photographs and digital assets using tools such as Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Photoshop or similar.
  • Drafting and scheduling social media posts across platforms.
  • Supporting the office’s wider online presence, including website updates and email newsletters where required.
  • Turning casework themes, constituency visits, parliamentary activity and local campaigns into clear, resident-facing content.
  • Ensuring content is accurate, accessible, professional and appropriate for a parliamentary office.
  • Working with colleagues to gather footage, quotes, local information and updates.
  • Supporting occasional press, media or stakeholder communications.
  • Ensuring records, content and information are handled confidentially and in line with data protection requirements.
  • Other reasonable duties as directed by the Office Manager or MP.


Person Specification
Essential

  • Good video editing skills, especially for short-form social media content.
  • Experience creating digital content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X/Twitter or similar platforms.
  • Good political judgement and an understanding of how to communicate sensitively on local and national issues.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and manage a small but varied workload.
  • Confidence using digital tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop or similar.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, data protection and the need for professionalism in an MP’s office.

Desirable

  • Experience working in politics, Parliament, local government, trade unions, campaigns, charities or community organisations.
  • Understanding of Middlesbrough and East Cleveland, or the wider Tees Valley.
  • Experience preparing content from raw footage.
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party.
