Job Details

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly organised Administrative Assistant to join the constituency office of Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP on a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2027.

This is a fast-paced role within a busy constituency office, providing high-quality administrative support to ensure the office operates efficiently while delivering an excellent service to constituents. You will work closely with the Head of Office and wider team, helping to manage office systems, coordinate meetings and events, support policy casework, and maintain accurate records.

Key Responsibilities

Manage Mr Byrne's and the team's busy diary, coordinating a fast-moving schedule.
Manage shared office inboxes, responding to enquiries where appropriate.
Support the management of policy casework and maintain accurate records using the Parliamentary Caseworker system and other databases.
Coordinate meetings, constituency surgeries, community visits and events.
Provide administrative support, including drafting routine correspondence, processing post, maintaining filing systems and ordering office supplies.
Assist with the day-to-day running of the office and undertake other reasonable duties as required.

About You

The successful candidate will have excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment. You will be an effective communicator with strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and be able to handle confidential information with discretion.

You will also demonstrate a proactive, flexible approach to work and a commitment to delivering an excellent service to constituents.

Essential

Previous experience in an administrative or office support role.
Experience working in the public, voluntary or charity sector.

Desirable

An understanding of the communities, issues and stakeholders within Birmingham Hodge Hill & Solihull North.
An understanding of Parliament and the role of an MP's constituency office.
