Job Purpose
We're looking for a self-starter with press office experience to join our PR team as a Junior Press Officer. Reporting to the PR Manager, you will bring excellent written and verbal communication skills and a keen news sense to help us deliver proactive and reactive media activities.
Key Responsibilities
Press office functions, including closely monitoring the news agenda, seeking proactive and reactive opportunities for CMI to bring our expertise in leadership and management to bear and comment on fast-moving events.
Identify media opportunities to raise the profile of our key policies, in-house research and the wider value of CMI accreditation.
Respond to phone calls and emails from journalists in a timely fashion.
Lead on drafting timely and engaging social media content related to Policy and External Affairs, working closely with the social media to both develop and draft content plans and offer wider support to Marketing campaigns.
Develop and build media contacts and keep abreast of developments relevant to CMI.
Create and deliver detailed coverage and engagement reports and campaign evaluations.
Support the wider team on other ad hoc tasks such as political monitoring, social media monitoring and public affairs support.
Person Profile
Must have experience of working in a press office or media environment such as journalism
A strong grasp of how to craft social media content for varying channels and how to utilise them for effective communications
Strong understanding of appropriate use of AI to enhance productivity and content
Ability to communicate effectively face to face, in writing, by email, and on the telephone
Ability to work to tight deadlines on short notice, respond quickly to fast-moving events and manage own time effectively and productively
Strong attention to detail
Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
Someone who will live CMI’s values and is professional, passionate, progressive and practical
Be resourceful in finding new journalists and publications to contact.
Have a desire to build a career in PR and display enthusiasm for learning.
The CMI approach is to work collaboratively and flexibly and you may be required to take on additional responsibilities as and when required to support the organisation.
