Job Details

 Sarah Russell MP is looking for a proactive person who is interested in research, community engagement, policy development and making a difference to join her Congleton-based team as a part-time Constituency Research Officer. The successful candidate will be expected to research and prepare detailed projects between now and the end of March 2027.

The ideal person will already have some knowledge of the constituency, be able to conduct desk and place-based research and provide and deliver detailed constituency data and local opinion on national emerging policy, as well as organising events. This will included round table and public meetings.

Subjects may include, but are not restricted to:

• Housing policy, including leasehold issues;
• Fatality reduction of various types, and especially around drowning and rural roads;
• NHS provision - including hospices/end of life; dentistry; and adult and child mental health provision.

It is likely to involve engaging with bereaved families, and constituents who are deeply distressed.

The role is ideal for someone who wants to make a difference. It will suit someone who is able to work independently as well as part of a team, is well organised and has good attention to detail. Ability to engage with local authorities, service providers and constituents will be important.

Funding is available for 22.5 hours per week until March 2027 and there will be some flexibility on how and where your work is developed.

Job Description

Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure the member is accurately informed on policy matters
• Compilation of briefing packs for the MP
• Prepare briefing notes for parliamentary questions, committees and press releases.
• Undertake research on relevant subjects as directed
• Project work – including organising round tables, focus groups and surveys
• Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business and how they impact on the constituency
• Engage confidentially, professionally and with care and integrity with members of the public and others through telephone enquiries, emails and face-to-face encounters

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview: 5 or 6 August 2026

Successful candidates will be notified by the 31July and given a short task to bring to the interview. Interviews will be held in Congleton on August 5 and 6.
