Job Details

Jerome Mayhew MP is seeking a hard-working, motivated and skilled Constituency Assistant. This role is full-time and will be based in the constituency office.


This is a varied and rewarding role functioning at the heart of the constituency team. The successful candidate will support the Member's constituency activities, engagement and communications. This will include the Member's non-party political constituency campaigns. They will have excellent communication and written skills, be able to manage a busy workload, and build positive relationships with constituents, local organisations and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
  • Attend constituency meetings as appropriate
  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required
  • Draft responses to constituents
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation
  • Establish, monitor and update a social media and online presence in the constituency. Produce online graphics and video content, as well as publicising surgeries and news alerts etc.
  • Follow up on social media queries and comments
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally

Additional responsibilities:

  • Horizon-scanning local issues and providing reports to the Member and the team
  • Leading on non-party political incumbency projects for the Member

Essential skills and experience:

  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to deal sensitively with people from a range of backgrounds
  • The ability to proactively manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
  • A strong attention to detail
  • Excellent IT Skills, including the use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party
  • Full UK driving licence
