The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) is seeking a Communications and Engagement Officer to help deliver clear communications, strengthen public engagement and support the work of the Police and Crime Commissioner across Hertfordshire.
This varied role sits at the heart of local policing, crime prevention and community safety. The successful candidate will support the planning and delivery of communications activity, ensuring residents understand how their views influence policing and community safety priorities.
Key responsibilities include developing and delivering communications campaigns, managing media relations, monitoring and responding to media enquiries, and building positive relationships with journalists. The role involves creating engaging content for a range of channels, including the OPCC website, newsletters, press releases, annual reports, case studies and social media platforms.
A significant part of the role focuses on public engagement and consultation. The postholder will design surveys, analyse public feedback, interpret data and identify opportunities to improve engagement with residents and partners. They will also support public meetings by preparing briefings, coordinating logistics and liaising with Hertfordshire Constabulary and other stakeholders.
The role includes managing public enquiries and casework, ensuring residents receive responsive and professional customer service. The successful candidate will be confident dealing with sensitive and complex issues, able to build strong relationships and manage competing priorities effectively.
Applicants should have experience creating compelling communications content, excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to translate complex information into clear and accessible messages. Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, are essential.
