Job Details

Chris Murray is looking for a highly motivated, politically aware and organised individual to join his team. As a Communications Officer, you will play a key role in communicating Chris’ work to constituents across Edinburgh East and Musselburgh.

Spanning traditional and new media, you will plan, coordinate, and deliver media and digital communications outputs of Chris’ work in Westminster and his constituency, communicating how his work impacts constituents. You will also identify opportunities to proactively communicate on local campaigns, and help secure impact and influence in the constituency.

If you can think creatively and work flexibly as part of a small team, we would like to hear from you. To be successful you will have experience of working in a communications or media environment; knowledge of the local media would be great; but more importantly a keen interest and passion for the issues that matter a must.

The ideal candidate would have:
• Strong experience working in social media communications
• Technical expertise in producing high quality content
• Demonstratable experience in engaging different with varied demographic
• Previous experience in a political office is not necessary but a grasp of how to shape public and political debate would be very helpful
• Able to work independently and as part of a small, collaborative team
• Excellent researcher skills with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Key responsibilities:
• Develop targeted communications campaigns across a range of platforms
• Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and identify issues of relevance
• Monitor social media activity and provide insight on emerging trends and constituent concerns
• Monitor and interpret legislation, parliamentary business, debates
• Manage and produce a monthly newsletter using Mailchimp
• Create, edit and publish engaging social media content
• Draft external communications, press releases and public statements
• Conduct detailed research and analysis on a wide range of policy and constituency issues
