Andy Slaughter MP is looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to join his busy constituency team as a Caseworker.
As part of a team, the successful candidate will ensure that casework is progressed appropriately on behalf of the Member and will offer advice and support to constituents on a wide range of issues.
The successful candidate will operate in a demanding political environment and must possess the ability and motivation to respond to a large and varied workload.
Key Responsibilities
- Deal with daily enquiries from members of the public by phone, email, letter and in person ensuring that constituents are responded to in a manner which reflects the Member’s views.
- Gather relevant information in order to progress or close a constituent’s case through liaising with Government and local agencies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant guidelines/legislation as appropriate in dealing with casework.
- Log and monitor progress of all cases and ensure all records and information is stored confidentially, in line with GDPR and Data Protection guidelines.
- Assist with the work of other colleagues as required and communicate appropriately with internal and external contacts.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working and dealing with the public is essential.
- Good IT skills including MS Office applications.
- Ability to manage a large and varied caseload under pressure, and carry out tasks quickly and to a high standard.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- An awareness of the functions of a Parliamentary office and a willingness to ‘muck in’ with the work of the office.
- Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
- Previous experience of casework or an advisory role, with an understanding of immigration, housing and benefit systems in the UK.
