Job Details
As Local Party Organiser, you will support the Liberal Democrats across Ely and East Cambridgeshire so that:
- membership and the volunteer base grow;
- fundraising capacity increases to support local campaigning, including by the MP;
- we are better placed to fight elections, with campaigning and communications well coordinated;
- more Liberal Democrats are elected to the new unitary authority;
- we increase our majority at the next Parliamentary election.
Priorities will be set by the local executive and campaign strategy team, with regional staff.
Key responsibilities
- Support the campaign committee in strategic planning and organisation.
- Recruit, train, manage and motivate volunteers, and lead teams across doorstep, phone, online and delivery activity.
- Plan and deliver a sustained programme of doorstep and telephone voter contact.
- Oversee and contribute to campaign literature, and build our digital campaigning capacity.
- Manage campaign data and organise volunteers to do the same, in line with data protection rules.
- Liaise with the regional party, neighbouring local parties and council groups.
- Support the fundraising group as duties allow.
- Carry out other duties your line manager may reasonably require.
You will also observe health and safety rules, uphold professional standards, promote equal opportunities and diversity, and take part in relevant training.

Essential
- A strong self-starter, able to work unsupervised, manage your own workload, prioritise and meet deadlines.
- A can-do attitude and resilience under pressure.
- The ability to communicate effectively, in writing and in person, with a wide variety of people.
- The ability to motivate, manage and delegate to a team, and to work well within one.
- A willingness to learn new skills, software and ways of working.
- Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the local area and its politics.
- The ability to produce effective political literature.
- Experience of managing volunteers and running election campaigns.
- Good digital skills, including experience of, or willingness to learn, Connect, Lighthouse and Affinity Publisher.
- An eye for issues with campaigning potential, and confidence with local media.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
