Elsie is looking for a full-time caseworker to work in her busy constituency office.
The successful applicant will be happy to work both independently and as part of Elsie’s small, close-knit team. The role will be full-time and will allow for hybrid working both in the constituency office in Heywood, and remotely.
Duties include:
- Manage a large number of standard queries and more complex cases from members of the public.
- Answering the telephone to constituents and handling incoming voicemails, and other correspondence.
- Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
- Log all cases, monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
- Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with GDPR.
- Draft high-quality responses to constituents.
- Identify key themes emerging from casework and communicate these to the MP to raise in Parliament.
- Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately, in accordance with the MPs requirements.
- Assist at surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain systems that ensure proactive communication with constituents - for example, street letters.
- Support with the organisation of constituency events and wider constituency engagement.
- There will be a requirement to occasionally work outside of normal working hours, including attending events with the MP as required.
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience working as a caseworker in a similar, public-facing role.
- Ability to deal with and prioritise a large and varied workload and work well under pressure.
- Ability to manage expectations in sometimes challenging circumstances.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good IT skills including MS Office.
- Ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard.
- Motivation to work proactively and independently, as well as part of a small team.
- Commitment to the aims and values of the Labour Party
The role will focus on casework related to housing so knowledge and experience of housing casework would be desirable.
