Job Details
We are looking for a dynamic and capable Communications Officer to join the busy parliamentary team of Angus MacDonald MP.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in fast-paced political and professional environments, and able to produce clear, engaging content across social, print and broadcast channels.
This is an opportunity to gain unique experience at the heart of Parliament while working on some of the most significant issues facing the Highlands, including healthcare, energy, and the cost of living.
This role is based in-person in Parliament. Occasional travel in the constituency may be required.
Key skills
Essential
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce engaging press releases, speeches, newsletters and social media content.
- Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and respond quickly to breaking developments.
- An understanding of, and commitment to, the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.
Desirable
- Experience working with journalists and managing media relationships.
- Experience designing visual content.
Experience managing social media platforms and/or digital communications.
- Experience working in politics, public affairs, communications or journalism.
- Knowledge of issues affecting rural and island communities.
Key responsibilities
- Develop engaging and targeted content across a range of platforms.
- Draft press releases, opinion pieces, and briefings on behalf of the MP.
- Manage the MP’s online presence, ensuring that content is timely, accurate and engaging.
- Monitor media coverage and identify opportunities to promote campaigns and parliamentary work.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local, regional and national media outlets.
- Prepare briefing material ahead of interviews, meetings, debates and media appearances.
- Support the delivery of major research projects and policy campaigns.
- Respond to any urgent developments and management of the MP’s public image.
- Undertake any other tasks that may reasonably be required by the MP and senior members of staff.
