Job Details

Seeking a skilled, proactive Communications and Policy Assistant to join a small, agile constituency team. You will manage constituent policy correspondence and execute a vibrant digital strategy highlighting local and national issues to support Blair’s work in East Renfrewshire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Correspondence: Research, draft, and log prompt, high-quality responses to constituent policy queries with total confidentiality and data compliance.
  • Digital Content & Social Media: Manage social channels, track metrics, respond to enquiries, and create engaging digital assets (graphics and videos).
  • Press & Media Support: Monitor media coverage and draft press releases on constituency matters.
  • Constituency Engagement: Assist with advice surgeries and public events (requiring occasional local travel/out-of-hours work) while building stakeholder relationships.

Required Skills & Values

  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal skills with experience drafting policy responses and clear copy.
  • Digital Literacy: Strong social media acumen; content creation software skills (e.g., Canva, Premiere Pro) highly desirable; knowledge of Microsoft Office essential.
  • Political Awareness: Solid political judgment, keen interest in current affairs, and understanding of Scottish politics.
  • Personal Qualities: Excellent self-management, teamwork, discretion, and sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with Caseworker / PRS software.
  • Knowledge of local East Renfrewshire issues.
  • Full, clean UK driver’s licence.
