Jonathan Hinder MP is looking for an outstanding parliamentary researcher/senior parliamentary researcher, to be part of his team serving the people of Pendle and Clitheroe.

This position will be primarily focused on Jonathan’s parliamentary and national political activity, but will involve close working with staff based in the constituency office to run local campaigns.

Given the nature of the work there is a need for flexibility in working hours/occasional travel to the constituency.

This will be based in the MP’s office in Westminster, working alongside a communications officer. Broad alignment with Jonathan’s political principles is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive forward Jonathan's national political campaigns, working closely with other MPs’ offices, campaign groups and policy organisations.
• Manage Jonathan’s Westminster diary, ensuring time is allocated according to his priorities.
• Closely monitor parliamentary business and political developments in Westminster, ensuring Jonathan is informed of relevant breaking news.
• Undertake research, draft briefings and provide political advice.
• Draft speeches and prepare Jonathan for media appearances, working in tandem with the communications officer.
• Develop and maintain relationships with individuals and groups on Jonathan’s behalf.
• Attend parliamentary meetings and engagements either with or on Jonathan’s behalf.
• Deal with complex policy queries in conjunction with the constituency team.
• Work collaboratively with the constituency team to deliver on local priorities.

Skills Required:

• An excellent understanding of British politics, including an in-depth knowledge of the Labour Party’s history, different traditions, and internal dynamics.
• Highly motivated, eager to learn quickly and take on new challenges.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences and speaking with the authority of the MP.
• Strong political judgement, with a clear understanding of people’s priorities in an area like Pendle & Clitheroe.
• Ability to work swiftly and independently without supervision, with a strong eye for detail and accuracy.
• Team player, happy working as part of a close-knit team.
• A knowledge of the Pendle and Clitheroe constituency and its political dynamics is desirable but not essential.
