About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, creative Communications Officer to work across the offices of Pete Wishart MP and Jim Fairlie MSP, communicating political priorities, engaging constituents and stakeholders, managing media relations, and developing content across platforms.

This role suits someone with excellent communication skills, a strong interest in politics and public affairs, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This is currently a temporary position for 6 months.

Key Responsibilities

Produce communications materials conveying both offices' priorities and activities.
Monitor local, political and media developments relevant to both offices.
Draft and distribute press releases, briefings and other written materials.
Create and manage social media content across platforms.
Monitor media, responding to comments and developments as they arise.
Identify media opportunities and act as a point of contact for enquiries.
Develop innovative approaches to audience engagement and digital communications.
Represent both representatives with the media where appropriate.
Attend public engagements alongside, or on behalf of, both representatives as required.
Maintain understanding of relevant policy and constituency issues.
Prepare regular briefings and reports.
Analyse website and social media data to identify trends and opportunities.
Correspond with constituents and organisations, and provide casework support as required.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

A strong interest in politics, public affairs and current events.
Confidence representing elected representatives in media settings.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable across audiences.
Experience monitoring and interpreting media developments.
The ability to build positive relationships with journalists, stakeholders and organisations.
Proficiency in social media and digital platforms.
Strong IT skills across communications channels.
Excellent organisational skills, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
The ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
